August Schell is looking for individuals with System Administration or Systems Architecture experience in support of distributed large-scale UNIX (primarily SUN Solaris and Red Hat Linux) and Microsoft Windows systems environments. Selected individuals will be trained in the use of the Opsware Sever Automation System (SAS) and Opsware Network Automation System (NAS) to become Opsware Technical Consultants. Opsware Technical Consultants will assist in deploying and be responsible for managing the Opsware software and then provide and implement succinct architectural recommendations to the customer regarding their server and application management efforts.

As a principal member of the engineering team, Opsware Technical Consultants hold the primary responsibility of troubleshooting and correcting problems across multiple systems. Opsware Technical Consultants rely on their ability with systems, networks, and application flow to identify and resolve configuration issues and problems.

Ultimately, the Opsware Technical Consultant serves as an essential member of the Opsware Customer Solutions team, responsible for the successful deployment and customization of Opsware on customer premises. Opsware Technical Consultants provide data center automation consulting services to the customer, and should be comfortable representing the company. Opsware Technical Consultants will utilize their expert-level system administration skills, and their strong understanding of cross platform administration and large scale, distributed systems environments. A moderate amount of software development may be required.

Responsibilities:
- Deploy the Opsware System on client premises.
- Customize and extend Opsware based on customer's business requirements.
- Work with customer to deploy large scale, business critical applications using Opsware.
- Develop Python scripts, shell scripts, VB scripts, and batch files for automation of system and application administration.
- Develop custom applications using the Opsware APIs and industry standard programming languages such as Python, Perl, SH, or Java to meet client's business needs.
- Define and communicate customer-driven product enhancements to the Engineering group.
- Debugging of low level operating system, networking, and application problems.
- Increase capacity for customers to use, administer, and customize Opsware independently.
- Package client's custom technology and applications for use with Opsware.

Required Skills and Experience:
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of and hands on experience in the following areas:
- System administration and debugging experience on at least two of the following platforms: Solaris, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, BSD, and Windows.
- Network configuration and troubleshooting on large IP networks. DNS and DHCP administration experience a plus.
- Automation of common tasks with Perl, Python, shell scripts, VB script and batch files.
- An understanding of how various server applications (Web Servers, databases, application servers) work together for an overall systems solution.
- Experience with software packaging (e.g. RPM, MSI, etc.) and software distribution.

Experience in the following areas is a plus:
- Software development experience. Experience with Python or Java a plus.
- Database experience a plus, especially Oracle. SQL is a plus. Crystal Reports is a plus.
- Application technologies including IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic, JBOSS, .NET framework, etc.
- Common internet protocols including HTTP, SSL, and SOAP/XML-RPC/Web Services.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline or comparable experience.
